CRJ in the spotlight at Milipol Doha 2018
CRJ were to the fore at the latest edition of the Milipol conference in Doha, Qatar.
CRJ Editor-in-Chief, Emily Hough chaired a half-day workshop on the topic of Civil Defence and opened the session herself with a talk on the importance of leadership in crisis management. During this, she explained some of the threats faced by societies in various crises and the roles of leadership in protecting their people.Emily highlighted the likely adversities the world is expected to encounter in the next decade owing to adverse weather conditions, climate change and potential human-induced disasters.
While calling for the necessity of finding effective solutions to overcome such weather adversities and natural calamities, Emily advised the states to learn from the experiences of countries that had experienced such situations earlier. “The issue of crises is also about epidemics and diseases and the steps that need to be taken. Disasters are damaging to reputation and sustainability and today’s leaders need different kinds of skills to overcome such crises,” she added.
Another CRJ representative also spoke during this session. Dennis Davis a long-standing member of the CRJ Editorial Advisory Panel spoke on the topic of civil defence and the city-state, the role of technology and community.
The event was also an opportunity for Dennis to catch up with old friends and associates from the period when Dennis was heavily involved in supporting Qatar to modernise it's entire Civil Defence function. This photograph shows Dennis with Brigadier General. Abdullah Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Directorate of Civil Defense for Qatar. It's always good to see the current issue of CRJ in the hands of those at the centre of crisis management internationally.
