Terje Skavdal
Terje Skavdal is Humanitarian Coordinator with Norwegian Peoples Aid.
Previously, he was the Chief of the Field Coordination and Support Section (FCSS) of the Emergency Service Branch, United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA), Geneva. In this position he was responsible for the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination team (UNDAC) and was the Secretary of the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).
Terje Skavdal was born in Norway in 1952. He studied Economics and Public administration at the University College of Oslo, Disaster Management at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, US and Senior Management studies at the Norwegian School of Economics, Bergen, Norway.
Terje Skavdal has a broad background in disaster management with more than 30 years of work experience in natural disasters and complex emergencies responses from leading position within Governments, NGOs, private sector and the UN. He did join the UNDAC team in 1995 and has prior to his present position served OCHA as the Regional Disaster Response Advisor in Asia, based in Kobe, Japan and as the Head of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, based in Bangkok, Thailand.
