In addressing the wicked problems of the 21st century, including new and emerging challenges to the resilience of built environments, an interdisciplinary approach to complexity and uncertainty is vital to drive and develop innovative modern solutions.
That’s why, at the beginning of 2024, the Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM) launched the ISRM Centre for the Study of Wicked Problems (CWSP) 2024 Global Urban Resilience Project to bring together academics, practitioners, and policymakers to research and advocate for effective solutions that can help model, prepare for and engage with the challenges that the world is already facing and will continue to face in the foreseeable future.
On February 20–22, CWSP is launching the project with the first CSWP Virtual Conference: Global Urban Resilience in the 21st Century, consisting of six online sessions over three days that will serve as a platform for discussion on tackling modern wicked problems and the evolving nature of urban resilience in the 21st century.
The conference will bring together leading global experts and thought leaders for a wide-ranging series of discussions on the opportunities and challenges faced in 2024 and beyond.
Attendance is open to all those interested in the evolving nature of urban resilience in the 21st century and best-practice approaches to tackling the modern wicked problems of the time.
The ISRM launched the Global Urban Resilience project as the first major initiative from the CWSP to tackle global problems regarding the stability and prosperity of urban centres, focusing on managing complex risks better and improving urban resilience in the 21st century.
The project’s vision is to support research and develop frameworks that can genuinely influence long-term preparedness and adaptive capacity, enabling cities to anticipate, mitigate, and recover from shocks more effectively. It aims to identify outcome-oriented solutions and innovative resilience strategies that can be shared and implemented across urban landscapes.
CWSP is an international academic institution dedicated to facilitating effective research, analysis and solutions to the wicked problems faced by organisations, governments and communities. The centre brings stakeholders, academics, policymakers, and practitioners together with one common platform to develop effective frameworks and strategies to address multifaceted challenges.
In creating a common global platform, the CSWP is committed to facilitating a multidisciplinary approach, recognising that the complexity of wicked problems requires bringing multiple perspectives and expertise.
